Poem
Cold Start
Wet windows, missing frost by inches;
Fingers feel those icy pinches;
Cold and damp squeeze hard on skin;
Frosty fabric slaps my shin;
Shoes now feel like blotting paper,
Feet of ice a moment later.
Soaking socks and frozen feet
And slippery mud – now ankle deep.
I wish I’d put on extra layers,
It’s too late now for selfish prayers
As through my coat the drizzle creeps,
Then damp onto my shoulder seeps.
Oh, misery! With sinking heart
I shiver –
now the car won’t start.
My lips and fingers turning blue,
Do I hate winter? YES I DO!
