Poem

It was So Good to Meet You

We may meet someone, by chance, and we feel that they would have made a wonderful life-long friend, had we met them sooner. Time is running out to complete the exchange of shared opinions, ideas, life experiences, similar shared histories. This poem is for one special lady who made such an impression (and our two dogs got on very well, too).

How ever short the time that is given
Or how many cycles must ever be ridden
To connect all the roads, the paths and the ways,
Let our quality time be a journey each day.

So, when, once in a while someone does come along,
Like the lyrics of a composer’s classic song,
The words go on streaming past the life of their muse,
And with them a connection you don’t want to lose.

As the seconds tick round on the clock on the church,
As the blackbird sings at dawn from its perch,
We rejoice in those moments and the people we treasure,
Hold those memories they leave through our time, without measure.

There is still a great joy if someone we meet,
Be it over the oceans or here on the street,
Has a mantra for life that accepts that their clock
Is in the Hands of the Winder who knows when it will stop.
