Poem
School Poetry Workshop – Houseman (1996)
These short entries were found whilst clearing out our youngest daughter’s bedroom once we knew she had definitely flown the nest (she may yet chase me for copyright royalties). How could I throw them away?
The first is untitled.
The doorway to our thoughts opened,
Conversation wound up like the gears of a clock,
Like the canal locks, like a turnstile,
It was the gateway to our first kiss.
The chapter is now closed.
Only Children Believe
Whispering voices heard in the wind,
Distant sounds spoken by dolls,
Secrets awake when others sleep.
Only children believe.
